Methodology

Urea Nitrogen Breath Testing
Useful for diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori and confirmation of eradication of Helicobacter pylori following antibiotic therapy. Indicates presence or absence of active infection.

Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Breath collection Special Collection Kit

Specimen Volume: See “Container/Tube”

Collection Instructions: Fasting (1 hour). Call Holland Hospital Laboratory Services at 616-355-3801 for special instructions prior to testing.

Note: Patient must be off antibiotics, bismuth, proton pump inhibitors, and sucralfate for 2 weeks prior to testing.

Patient must fast 1 hr. Patient must be >3 years old.
