Collection Instructions:
Note: 1. HER2 protein immunohistochemical test results are only valid for non-decalcified, paraffin-embedded specimens fixed in neutral buffered formalin. For optimal results, tissue must be fixed for a minimum of 6 hours and a maximum of 72 hours in fresh, neutral-buffered formalin. This test is FDA-approved only for specimens fixed using 10% formalin.
2. If HER2/neu score is weakly positive, score 2+, specimen will be sent to Spectrum Health Laboratories for “HER2 Amplification Associated with Breast Cancer, FISH” and will be performed and charged accordingly to determine HER2/neu amplification.
