Methodology

Chemiluminescence

Useful for patients who are not, or are not suspected to be, taking exogenous glucocorticoids. This is the recommended routine procedure.

Note:  This test will be run if high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is not specified.

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Plasma

Container/Tube: Mint-top (lithium heparin) tube(s)

Specimen Volume: 1 mL of plasma

Collection Instructions: Draw specimen between 3 and 5 pm.

Note: 1. If multiple specimens are drawn, send separate order for each specimen.

2. Indicate plasma and time of draw.

3. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).

 

Serum

Container/Tube: Serum gel tube(s)

Specimen Volume: 1 mL of serum

Collection Instructions: Draw specimen between 3 and 5 pm.

Note: 1. If multiple specimens are drawn, send separate order for each specimen.

2. Indicate serum and time of draw. 

3. Label specimen appropriately (serum).

Specimen Transport Temperature

Refrigerate. Freeze if >48 hours.
