Specimen Requirements
Plasma or serum and urine are required for this test. Blood specimen should be drawn during the 24-hour period of urine collection or no more than 48 hours after the urine collection.
Plasma
Container/Tube: Mint-top (lithium heparin) tube
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL of plasma
Collection Instructions:
Note: 1. Indicate plasma.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Serum
Container/Tube: Serum gel tube
Specimen Volume: 0.5 mL of serum
Collection Instructions:
Note: 1. Indicate serum.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
Urine
Container/Tube: Plastic urine collection container
Specimen Volume: 10 mL from a 24-hour urine collection
Collection Instructions: No preservative. Refrigerate specimen during collection.
Note: 1. Hydrate patient by administering a minimum of 600 mL of water prior to collection.
2. Tea, coffee, and drugs should be withheld on day of testing.
3. 24-Hour volume is required.
4. Follow instructions in “Urine Collection” in Special Instructions.
