Note: If HBsAg; anti-HAV, IgM; and anti-HCV are negative and patient’s condition warrants, consider testing for Epstein-Barr virus or cytomegalovirus.

Specimen Requirements

Container/Tube: Serum gel tube- also acceptable: Lithium Heparin, EDTA, and Sodium Citrate plasma.

Specimen Volume: 2.5 mL (pediatric: 2 mL) of serum

Collection Instructions: Spin down and remove serum from clot within 24 hours. Send specimen in plastic vial.
